Following the publication of ‘Salt Bags’ in 2016, this is the second in a series of books by Parviz Tanavoli on woven objects from the tribal and rural people of Iran. Dedicated to ‘khorjins’ (saddlebags), this volume offers a multitude of beautifully crafted and colourful examples of what is, in fact, the most often used and multifunctional type of bag among the tribal peoples of the Iranian Plateau. The 150 ‘khorjins’ presented in this book were made during a time when seasonal migrations with horses and camels still took place, and to call these objects a rich archive of tribal designs is no exaggeration. The book explores geographical differences, terminology, and history of weaving in Iran.
