Upon completing her studies, Iranian-Canadian photographer Marjan Yazdi travelled to Yazd, Iran, to reconnect with her birthplace through her camera. She spent a year exploring the city’s old quarters, where she came upon an anachronous culture, a way of life that has persisted for many generations. The resulting series of photographs perfectly captures the ancient city with its covered alleyways and sheltered passages built to counter the arid climate. An important centre of Persian architecture, Yazd holds strikingly colourful mosaics and is one of the largest cities built almost entirely out of adobe. This is a testament to the quiet everyday life and people of a very special place.
