Vitis vinifera L. documents Alison Turnbull's commission for One Vine Street in London, undertaken during 2008 as part of The Crown Estate's redevelopment of the area.
This new, fully illustrated publication includes an essay by Paul Bonaventura which places the work in the wider context of the artist's research and studio practice.
The installation Vitis vinifera L. (the formal name for the common grapevine), comprises an elegant 8-meter wide wall painting in the entrance hall, the ingenious glazing that gives onto Swallow and Vine Streets at ground level, and the delicate lighting that runs vertically through the atrium.
Turnbull is an artist whose work makes connections with history and a spirit of place. Her starting points for Vitis vinifera L. derive from her pre-existing interests in architecture, botanical representation and plant taxonomy, and the address of the new development on Vine Street.
