This limited 2024 artist's book follows the 2022 solo exhibition 'Rotpeter: Bild eines zur Dressur gezwungenen' at Moon Grove, Manchester by the Cologne-based painter Behrang Karimi.
The publication contains images from the exhibition alongside an English translation of Franz Kafka's 'A Report to an Academy', the tale of Rotpeter, a monkey forced to become human after its capture.
If the vacant, non-plussed or dead-eyed portrait of Rotpeter on the publication's cover takes its starting point from Kafka's story, Karimi's image and book refer to another literary character; Alex, the uncorrected thrill-seeking sociopathic narrator of the novel A Clockwork Orange, an invention of the famous Mancunian anti-nationalist author Anthony Burgess, who Karimi cites as a major influence on his work.
