Julian Schnabel - The Re-Use of 2017 by 2018, Re-Use of Christmas, Birthdays, a Joke, Air and Water

The exhibition includes twelve new paintings that originate from 18th century calendar prints discovered by the artist in a second-hand store in New York City. After enlarging the original calendar prints' pastoral scenes, Schnabel paints on them, establishing a new picture without losing the first and emphasizing the constant multiplicity of vision. As Schnabel explains: 'It is about the power to take ordinary things, and by arranging them, to produce a transcendence of their ordinariness. The prints are reinterpreted just as all yesterdays and todays are.'
