Luis Fernandez-Galiano presents a selection of articles that he wrote between 1993 and 2006 for El Pais, whose weekly architecture page he was in charge of during those years. Jointly titled Alexandrine Years, evoking both their chronological scope and their chronicle nature, the two volumes of 512 pages apiece portray the vicissitudes of architecture in the course of the transition from the 20th century to the 21st. The first tome, 'The Age of Spectacle', covers the final years of 'yestercentury,' a period of optimistic prosperity best expressed in the much publicized Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao.
