Sam Bekirovich - Reading by Osmosis. Nature Interprets Man

'Reading by Osmosis' shows works of art that were not made by human hands: an overgrown fence, an underwater video, a battered disco ball. The makers? Ivy, an octopus and time. If we acknowledge that animals and plants, too, can 'read', interpret and (artistically) transform the world around them, is the traditional opposition between culture and nature still tenable? Sema Bekirovic does not identify with the image of the artist as lonely genius. Rather, she minimizes her own contribution to her work, and shares her authorship with coots, heat, or light. This book is the provisional high point of this process.
