"The Days of Life" is a long-term portrait project in which Andreas Mader repeatedly photographed the same people. It has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Luxembourg and Austria along with works by Richard Avedon, Rineke Dijkstra, Nan Goldin, Roman Opalka and others. With 100 illustrations, it covers a period of thirty years and forms a mosaic-like, large narrative of life. "In 1988, I began to photograph close friends and my family. The first pictures arose sporadically out of being together. We were young, spent whole days together, talked through nights, were close and familiar. Over time, I portrayed my neighbor more consciously. I watched them find and separate, how they got children, and how they grew up. How they were alone and with others, how they got older and took their hand, so as not to get lost on the way. Some of the friends moved away. To another place, to another country. A decade came to an end, a new century began. We saw each other less often, traveled to each other to keep an eye on each other, and I took pictures again. The changing places, the changing relationships, the change in appearance and the imperceptible passage of time form the backdrop against which the same people repeatedly come to the camera and make life visible. " Andreas Mader
