With their vivid palette and light, dynamic brushwork, the paintings of French fauvist Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) continue to enchant audiences today. Dufy was also a textile designer, an aspect of his oeuvre which this catalogue presents in great detail. With works from collections throughout Japan, it shows elegant, modern paintings for textile patterns and silk fabrics used by early 20th-century haute couture designers like Paul Poiret. The artist worked in many themes - the sea, music, flowers, insects, and pure geometric forms - but was also known for his masterful commercial work, making designs for the textile manufacturer Bianchini-Ferier from 1912 to 1928.
