Not too long ago, repair was the first response to a broken or worn-out item. But mass production has made it easier and cheaper to replace such things instead. Yet this kind of affordability comes at a price. The preservative desire that came with owning our possessions has given way to a covetous appetite for the new. Edited by Hans Tan, the ten repaired objects featured in 'R for Repair' offer a counterpoint to our modern consumerist culture, where repair is either deprecated or, ironically, deemed extravagant.
