Liesbeth Piena - A Colour Has Many Layers

Dutch artist Liesbeth Piena is recognisable for her powerful paintings in which plants and natural landscapes are reduced to their essential forms. Her way of looking at reality is analytical, by which small details catch her eye and attract her attention. From her observations, Piena isolates striking fragments and uses these to compose new images consisting of abstract yet familiar shapes and silhouettes in bold colours. Hence the appropriately titled 'A Colour Has Many Layers', which is published on the occasion of Piena's being granted the Sieger White Award for talented young artists in 2020 and her solo exhibition at Mini Galerie, Amsterdam, in September 2021.
