Stereographic Switzerland

Invented around 1850, stereoscopy is a process in which the illusion of three-dimensional depth is created in images by viewing them through a binocular apparatus. As an early tourist destination, Switzerland offered a wide array of popular motifs for stereo imaging. In this way, Swiss landscapes and landmarks reached an international audience with breath-taking vividness. This book presents the unique stereoscopic image collection of Donald G. Tritt, which today forms part of the collection of the Swiss National Museum.
