Hannah van Bart

Hannah van Bart's paintings are not portraits. And yet, like a portrait, most of the Dutch artist's paintings depict a single figure, characterised through their appearance, posture, clothing, gaze, and telling details. Her style is layered, searching, rough at times, and leans towards expressionism. This monograph presents a captivating window into her oeuvre and features numerous and diverse paintings of her imagined characters: girls, women, and men dressed in a dated or vintage style, along with the occasional dog or rabbit. Published on the occasion of a solo exhibition in the Netherlands, it includes texts by Bart Rutten and Hans den Hartog Jager, plus a conversation with the artist.
