Deriving his inspiration from popular culture, particularly comic strips, Herve Di Rosa made a name for himself in the Free Figuration movement in the early 1980s. He went on to devote himself to a unique project: sharing his images with different crafts and techniques throughout the world (from Sofia to Lisbon, via Ghana, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Mexico, Florida and Andalusia). In parallel with his art, Di Rosa collects what he calls the modest arts, aesthetic productions made outside the range of the fine arts. In 2000, he founded a museum dedicated to this output, the International Museum of Modest Arts, in Sete, his home town. Around the works entering the collection, the "Herve Di Rosa, le passe-mondes" (Herve Di Rosa, The world-crosser) exhibition brings together pieces from the Free Figuration period, modest art objects and recent paintings in order to provide an overview of this artist who is unlike any other.
