Published on occasion of the exhibition ‘Michel Majerus: Progressive Aesthetics’, 28 Nov 2022 – 19 Mar 2023, Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA Miami) – the first US museum survey for the artist.The catalogue explores the late artist’s work by taking up his interpretations of capitalism and cultural imperialism as they relate to art in American culture.Created at the threshold of the twenty-first century, Majerus’s works expound on themes of transformation. They are characterized by his fascination with speed, his passion for technology, youth culture, and art history and his perception of the power of art and institutions.This monograph provides a novel look at the artist’s brief but dynamic and prolific career.Highlighting Majerus’s timely reflection on and criticism of the pervasiveness of images, one of the book’s focal points is his look on the collaboration between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.Co-published with the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
