Monster Chetwynd. Bats and Velvet Worms! Moths, Bats and Heretics

Monster Chetwynd's works are known for their exuberant and humorous nature, often blurring the boundaries between artist, art and audience. Documentation of the large-scale installation specially developed for Belvedere 21. Monster Chetwynd's artistic practice encompasses a variety of media including installation, sculpture, performance, film and painting, her performance works can lean toward the glamorous, grotesque or nightmarish. The artist frequently employs handmade costumes, masks, props and stage sets often made from re-used materials that intentionally embrace a DIY, or bricoleur, aesthetic while referencing art history, feminist theory, film, popular culture or opera. In many performances Monster invites performers to participate and the boundaries between artist, art and audience become blurred.
