Derek Jarman's Modern Nature

This is a beautiful pocket-sized book focusing on Derek Jarman's lifelong passion for plants, the human body, the landscape and the greater environment. The publication includes originally commissioned texts by Tilda Swinton, Olivia Laing, Ali Smith, Neil Tennant and Alexandra Symons Sutcliffe and is edited by Philip Hoare. It also includes archival photography by Howard Sooley and Liam Daniel, and selected stills from Derek Jarman's films. Published alongside the John Hansard Gallery exhibition, Derek Jarman's Modern Nature, (2021/22), which drew and reflected on Jarman's extraordinary legacy as a radical artist and filmmaker. All proceeds are donated to Breakout Youth, a local charity which offers a confidential support service for young LGBTQ+ people. Designed by Daly & Lyon.
