How do human history, myths, and lives shape and change the character and culture of a region? Japanese photographer Seido Kino captures scenes from around the town of Okuizumo, in Japan's southern Shimane Prefecture, this series of stunning images. Not unlike many rural areas in Japan, the town's population is declining. In his beautiful and meditative images, Kino focuses on both the physical (rich and varied nature, buildings, human-made structures) and the social and intersubjective layers of the local landscape. From the macro to the micro, his lens captures the fleeting details of seasonal changes, age-old traditions, and the gradual but inevitable passage of time.
