Lubaina Himid: Workshop Manual

Featuring writings from Zoé Whitley (Curator of International Art, Tate Modern), Helen Legg (Director, Tate Liverpool), Courtney J. Martin (Deputy Director/Chief Curator, Dia Art Foundation, New York), and Emma Ridgway (Head of Programme, Modern Art Oxford). Himid’s work consists of colourful, decorative paintings, as well as sculptures and ceramics, generally themed around African experience and the global history of the African diaspora, and often referencing the aesthetics of African textiles. In 2017 Himid became the first black woman to win the Turner Prize. This catalogue was published after the artist’s major exhibitions across the UK in 2017/18 at Modern Art Oxford, Spike Island (Bristol), Nottingham Contemporary, and Badischer Kunstverein (Karlsruhe).
