Ilan Manouach - Tarwar

Ilan Manouach's 'Tarwar' builds on his earlier work, 'Abrege de bande dessinee franco-belge', while expanding its scope to a global perspective. Using computer vision technologies to analyse thousands of comics from diverse cultures, 'Tarwar' focuses on one recurring visual motif: the black panel. Found across genres, regions, and contexts worldwide, these panels mark narrative pauses, inviting reflection, introspection, or suspense. Composed entirely of black panels, 'Tarwar' highlights the universality of this element and demonstrates how comics can function as a shared language that transcends geographic, cultural, and stylistic boundaries - creating a collective narrative experience in a globalized world.
