Bringing together thirteen works spanning twenty years, the publication for the first time highlights patterns of making and thinking in Sarah Pierce's work, in which she consistently asks what community can mean.
Community, self-organisation and open networks are central to Sarah Pierce's practice, as are forms of gathering, both historical examples and those she initiates, and processes of research and presentation. The expansive publication accompanies the eponymous solo exhibition curated by Rike Frank and the European Kunsthalle. It features a significant selection of performances, videos, installations and archives, a series of texts relating to former iterations of the works, including writings by the artist, as well as a set of new essays by Pip Day, Bik Van der Pol, Grant Watson, and Tirdad Zolghadr written specifically for Scene of the Myth.
Edited by Rike Frank. With text by Clare Butcher, Zachary Cahill, Maeve Connolly, Pip Day, Annie Fletcher, Caroline Hancock, Mason Leaver-Yap, Sarah Pierce, Roy Claire Potter, Bik Van der Pol, Grant Watson and Tirdad Zolghadr.
