In 2012, Shitamichi Motoyuki and his wife moved into her mother's house in Aichi. It was the first place he called home after moving out of the small Tokyo apartment he had occupied for over ten years, since starting art school. In March 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. He saw how easily the ordinary could vanish, swept away in a moment, and it made him feel fiercely attached to the small, everyday details and routines of life. One morning, he noticed an improvised "cover" over a teapot. It was a bit clumsy, a little awkward, and endearing - a lovely, everyday tablescape. From then on, he would sneak into the kitchen each morning with a camera to take pictures.
