This book showcases the large-scale paintings and installations with which Turner Prize winner Lubaina Himid will represent Great Britain at the British Pavilion in Venice in 2026. In her paintings, prints and installations, Lubaina Himid explores race, feminism and our cultural memory, particularly the overlooked influence of Black immigrants on Western culture. For the British Pavilion in Venice, she has created works inspired by a guide to Zanzibar as well as the writings of Gertrude Stein - large-scale, multi-panel paintings in surreal and magical settings in Himid's characteristically vivid colour palette.
