Making Space - Independent Artist Initiatives in Taiwan since 1988

Selected papers investigate how contemporary Taiwanese art grew from "extra-institutional" art spaces. On the eve of the lifting of martial law in Taiwan in 1987, private spaces became the crucial sites where Taiwan's "avant-garde art" slowly transformed into what we now know as its contemporary art. This book features a collection of papers from the symposium "The Histories and Archives of Independent Art Spaces in Asia", a symposium organised by Asia Art Archive and held in Taipei in 2025.
