Jade Fadojutimi: DWELVE: A Goosebump in Memory

This book was published on the occasion of Jadé Fadojutimi: DWELVE: A Goosebump in Memory at Gagosian, West 21st Street, New York. Featuring new paintings and works on paper, the exhibition presented lush, large-scale acrylic and oil canvases in which Fadojutimi uses color, space, and line to investigate emotion, identity, and experience. Often suggesting plants or landscapes, these layered, gestural compositions ultimately remain abstract. Both inviting and mysterious, they explore a psychic realm that intersects with the experience of struggle. The catalogue reproduces all the works in the exhibition in color—nearly thirty paintings and more than eighty works on paper—and includes details and installation photography. It features “A Portrait of the Artist as All of Her Colors,” an original illustrated essay in which writer Harry Thorne discusses Fadojutimi’s abstractions as a sort of self-portraiture informed by the color theory of Josef Albers; an interview between the artist and composer Jerskin Fendrix that examines the relationship between soundtracks and art; and a foreword by the artist.
