Sarah van Rij & David van der Leeuw - Yuki Shimizu - The Netherlands - Chiba Taking Photographs

'Taking Photographs, Telling Stories' pairs works by the Dutch photographer duo Sarah van Rij and David van der Leeuw with images by writer and photographer Yuki Shimizu, as well as paintings, materials, and historical ephemera curated by Shimizu. The Dutch duo's work is marked by a poetic approach that seeks to imbue snapshots and street photography with a sense of the surreal, while Shimizu's practice includes examining Western painting traditions in photography's early days. Mirroring the eponymous exhibition's twofold structure, when opened from the left, the book presents work by Van Rij and Van der Leeuw; when opened from the right, Shimizu's work appears.
