"I had experienced certain symptoms since early childhood. Sensations that were essential to constituting who I am, yet which I felt were not worth sharing with others." This personal experience forms the framework for 'Counterpoint', photographer Kazuhei Kimura's exploration of Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS), also called dysmetropsia, a neurological disorder that distorts perception. Starting from his own experience, Kimura creates the landscapes and scenes he wants to see and photographs them. Arranged according to a few rules in a white room (or in a book, like this one), the setting allows others to enter the space and experience his unique perception of the world.
